Fayette Electric Cooperative will celebrate its 84th annual membership meeting in a new way.  With safety its primary concern, the co-op’s board of directors discussed options for this year’s event and after careful consideration decided to host Fayette EC’s first virtual annual meeting Wednesday, July 21.  At the time that plans were being made in February, the Centers for Disease Control was still advising against large gatherings.

Reports from management will be available for members to view on the day of the annual meeting on FEC’s website.

Members will vote in four director elections by completing the mail-in ballot that was sent to them on June 18, and returning it in the pre-paid envelope to Survey and Ballot Systems (SBS), a company from Minnesota, that Fayette EC has contracted with.

All members may vote, regardless of which district you receive electric service from the cooperative. The return of ballots is important since absentee ballots will be the sole means to determine a quorum at the annual meeting this year.

Since the 2020 meetings for districts 6 and 7 were postponed until 2021 in response to recommendations by the CDC and the state of Texas during the COVID-19 pandemic, four district meetings were held in May 2021.  The directors nominated at the meetings in district 6 and 7 and elected at the annual meeting will serve two-year terms rather than three-year terms.  The directors nominated at the district 3 and 4 meetings and elected at the annual meeting will serve the usual three-year terms.

Results from the director elections will be announced by the cooperative’s legal counsel during the virtual annual meeting.

Members whose ballots are received by SBS by July 16 will be eligible for prize drawings, including five $500 energy gift certificates. SBS will conduct the prize drawing by pulling random member’s names from the eligible ballots.  Members can view the list of door prize winners here on July 22.

The July issue of Texas Co-op Power magazine, which contains the annual report, was mailed to all FEC members on June 28.  The annual report can also be viewed here.

We look forward to our member’s participation in our 2021 virtual annual meeting and hope to see you in person at next year’s annual meeting when the Cooperative will celebrate its 85th anniversary.
